Arbors
Arbors
are attractive and functional while providing plenty of shade and privacy. Generally they are open structures with roof coverings of some sort.
Pergolas
are virtually the same thing except they are usually more open roofed with lattice or spaced timbers.
Gazebos
are also similar but are generally enclosed structures with walls.
If your looking to eliminate bugs then another structure might be a better choice. The intended use of this structure is to provide shelter from the sun and maybe light rain. Usually they cover a leveled area of concrete or crushed stone where seating is provided. They can be of any size or style, made with many different materials. Even four poles with a canvas stretched between them could be considered and arbor. They do not need to be as elaborate as the one pictured above.
These structures, like other structures, can be designed to fit any
themed
landscape. Since they can be made with a variety of materials they can be customized to match any decor or style. The most important thing to remember is to be sure they are anchored properly to handle the wind. Any open structure with a roof will lift even at lower wind speeds.
These structures are a great
accessory
to any backyard. They can add a lot of additional seating space for entertaining and provide shelter for those people that need to stay out of the sun. They can be placed over the patio, around the patio or at a distance offering a place for people to venture off to.
Whether choosing an arbor, gazebo or pergola, it's bound to be a great addition to your backyard life.
