Garden Benches

Garden benches are a great way to add seating to any area of a yard. Benches can be of any form, style or material and fit practically anywhere. Typically they can range in price from $50.00 to $3,000.00 unless of coarse you build your own. There are flat benches with no back, contoured benches, cushioned benches and curved concrete benches just to name a few.

Garden benches offer so much versatility with regards to decorating the yard and gardens.

They can be placed almost anywhere, tucked under some trees or in the middle of a flower bed. I like to create walking paths throughout my yard and along the way are benches for guests to sit and enjoy a water feature or flower bed. I have several benches in my yard that I have purchased and made. I like different styles so some are more rugged and others more ornate depending on the location. There is nothing more interesting than following a path, to an unknown location, and finding a hidden bench along the way. My yard is not very large but with the plantings, paths and seating I have created a much larger feel to the yard.

When picking a bench be sure it is both rugged and strong enough to handle the elements it may be exposed to in the yard. It should also be heavy enough to withstand any wind. I prefer wood benches for a more natural look even though they require some maintenance. The wood should be treated to prevent rot and prolong the life of the wood.

To help control pests, I like to add either a cedar mulch or stone beneath my benches. I also like to add some type of lighting like torches or tea lights to each bench area which also helps to control the bugs.

Benches are a great way to add additional seating around the patio without taking up much space. Often decks have built in benches for this very reason. They are even great for front porches.

Wherever placed, the garden bench is a perfect addition to any yard. They are one of the most functional, stylish and flexible pieces of furniture available for backyard living.
