Gazebos
Gazebos
are one of the most popular structures for the backyard. Everybody loves them for their attractive style and functional use. They are normally built out of woods like cedar and redwood for long lasting durability. They can be open sided or have screening and even windows. The most popular style is the 5 to 8 sided style with walls that come only part way up. They often have built in seating around the edges. No matter which style is chosen they are quickly becoming a favorite over
arbors
and
pergolas.
Most municipalities are quite accepting of these structures but check with them for building requirements. As with
sheds
and other permanent type structures, they have very specific requirements for footings, location and style. Some areas also require only one specific wood be used.
These structures are by far the most attractive and inviting structure you can choose for the yard. I prefer the style with screened in sides that can be changed to some type of glass, this creates a 3 season structure.
Often they are attached to a deck or corner of a deck for added living space. They are equally attractive if placed out in the yard away from the main seating area. There are many kits offered for the do-it-yourselfer in sizes starting from 6 foot square and up.

Gazebos are becoming so popular that at some point I expect we will see one in 70% of yards. The cost is reasonable based on what you get. It's a solid structure that extends your outdoor time, can provide a place free of pests, has seating and is dry.
