Hooks and Stands

Hooks and stands
offer the ability to add variation to garden beds and landscape. In recent years there has been many shepherd hook styles created and also an assortment of pedestal stands produced. The selection has improved dramatically but basically it all comes down to a hook or stand.I love the flexibility of adding them anywhere and moving them anytime depending on what I am growing or where I need to fill a bare spot. I have tomato and strawberry plants hanging from shephard hooks doing very well. I have both items in most of my
beds
as a way to provide flowers at different elevations. They are great for trailing plants that need to cascade downward. They also offer the shepherd hooks with multiple hooks, as many as five so many plants can be hung from one pole, each helping to balance the next. Wind is definitly not an issue since I have many of these items and with consistant winds of 40 miles per hour and gusts of 75 miles per hour, we have never had a problem. Pedestals are great for all the same reasons. Be sure to pick something heavy weight like stone or cast concrete. With pedestals you have more variety and style options. You can even
create
your own stands with old items. Take an old metal framed table and put a new ceramic top on it. Once it's in the garden surrounded by
perennials
with a beautiful plant cascading down it, you'll never even know there's a stand there. Take some trellis and create a boxed pedestal providing a place for Morning Glories to vine.
As with any accessory, garden hooks and stands complete the overall landscape design and provide interest by variety.
