Patio Gel Burners
Patio gel burners
are a great way to add light and deter pests while saving energy for your outdoor living space. They are just now becoming more popular which is creating a better selection of both size and style though it may still be hard to find what your looking for. I had to look long and hard to find a smaller gel burner that was more natural in style. I chose a slate style burner that is rather small so I elevated it by placing it on an old upside down pot.

Gel burners, like
patio torches,
use a liquid to feed the flame but do not use a wick like the torches. Typically they hold a canister that you just burn, it usually lasts for 2 to 4 hours and can be resealed and reused. Just keep in mind that gel is rather expensive in relation to other types of fuel. They are a great way to add some flame to the patio without the expense of putting in a fire pit or fireplace. A small one, like the one pictured, can be just another
accessory
like
hooks and stands.
Larger gel burners can become a focal point in the middle of the patio or around the patio. Using any type of flame can extend the use of your outdoor area by providing light and deterring pests. Obviously they use no electricity and the gel canister, once burned, does nothing to harm the environment. The gel is the same gel that is used in un-vented indoor fireplaces. When choosing a location for your gel burner, just consider the wind, safety and stability of of your location. The nice thing about them is that they are mobile and can be moved at any time. I chose the slate for that reason, it is very heavy which makes it quite stable. If you want a little flame around your
outdoor living space,
then give gel burners a try, they offer more style and personality than your standard torch.
