Patio Swings
Patio swings
are a great addition to any outdoor living space. Often as adults we forget how much we enjoyed swinging as children. Now there are several types of patio swings available that are both comfortable and stable for adult use.
For example, the photo below shows
an arbor swing
that is a one piece design intended for the patio. It is strong enough for several adults and stable enough to withstand very high winds.

There are many options similar to this for one or more people with or without covering. Unlike
gliders
or rockers, swings allow your feet to dangle free unless you want to touch the ground. There is usually a greater range of motion allowing you to feel the wind.
When I lived in Minnesota, near the Mississippi river, there was a park that had swings on the side of the bluff. You could actually swing out over the ledge which was a tremendous feeling of freedom. Obviously this is not typical for most yards or very safe but if we can achieve just 1% of that feeling, swings are well worth the investment.
There are also all of the old standards such as tire swings and hammocks. Just be sure that any swing is structurally safe for it's intended use. Although the covered arbor swing in the photo is quite stable, I added 4 shepherd hooks over the rails to make sure it could not move or be affected by the wind.
Outdoor furniture
is not just having a dining set anymore. Your typical table with umbrella just does not work for all situations. Having all the different furniture options allows you to enjoy a range of comfort and provides seating preferences for guests.
Swings are a necessary addition for a true outdoor living space.
