Trellis

Trellis has been around for years as a place for vining plants to grow. The reason I have listed it in this section is due to the fact many people have found a way to use it as part of structures. Your typical trellis can be metal, vinyl or wood propped against a wall. They have been used for years as a place for climbing roses and morning glories to vine.

Today they have been incorporated into structures as a way to provide a sense of privacy. I installed this screen behind an open arbor I have. It helps to screen my neighbors and give one a feeling of privacy. Placing it behind a bench also gives a feeling of a seperate space or room.

Other people use it to dress up a bland wall. With so many homes now constructed of vinyl, especially in the rear of the home, placing it on the wall helps to break it up and improve the appearance. You can also attach a few of them together to create a seating area divider.

Since they have become so popular for some many different uses, the selection and styles have improved. Any home improvement store has a good selection of styles and sizes. The metal ones can be more expensive but they will last much longer. Now they have some that are not just flat but have several sides. I have a four sided form that still fits the definition since it's intended purpose is for plants to vine.

Try a little trellis in the yard and not necessarily for its original purpose. It can spice up a bland area, provide function and create illusion.
