Word Stones

Word stones are small resin or concrete stones that convey a message and are placed at entrances or within garden beds. You have probably seen them many places but never really noticed them. They are typically small, sometimes appearing as rocks with inscriptions or as a brick sized block. They can say anything you want to convey or just welcome people to your home.

I have both purchased them and made my own. You can find them almost anywhere with pre-stamped messages but if you want your own message you'll have to purchase a kit. There are several kits on the market that consist of molds, concrete mix, dye, and stamps to create your own message.

I like to add them to beds and landscape to suggest what the vision is. Rarely do people even notice them, since they are placed among the flowers, but they are there for a personal reason. They represent a nice un-intrusive accent and still allow other accessories to be added without appearing gaudy. For example in one bed I have a water feature, wind chimes, a planter and a word stone. All anyone normally sees is the water feature as I intended it to be. They do see everything as a whole package but the water feature is the focal point.

These stones give us a chance to be creative, expressive and reflective. Even if your not good with projects, you can easily make your own. I like to use mine to represent how I feel about each place there located. I have one in a fruit and flower bed that simple says "This is Life." Thats how I feel, life is not about cars, disputes or clothes. Life is about plants, animals, water, air, etc.

So, as a final touch, try adding a word stone that says something you feel strongly about and add it anywhere.
